Worldcub - “Back to the Beginning”
North Wales-based Worldcub have just released the trippy and hypnotic new single, “Back to the Beginning.” The song I will for now place in the genre of psychedelic rock.
“Back to the Beginning” is one of those tracks that feels familiar as soon as you play it. It almost evokes the vibe of a TV theme by Barry Gray or Ron Grainer. It exudes an upbeat and nostalgic 1960s jazzy vibe that is impossible to resist, making it the perfect earworm. I honestly feel like I am a kid again back in the 1990s, watching the classic reruns on TV, full of anticipation. Suspense, adventure, and mystery are all on the cards.
The groove on this song feels like it is roaming around almost unstoppably, thanks to the bass and guitar lines. The simple, ascending riff is addictively good and will get your head bopping. Punctuating the groove is a percussive beat that almost has the feel of skipping or shuffling.
Texture is delightfully used to give the track a constant feeling of evolution. Guitar layers are allowed to expressively weave in certain areas, creating a hypnotic sense of motion. Vintage key layers also shimmer brightly or give reed instrument-like tones. The track truly is clever and mesmerising.
The track’s vocals are quirky, but they perfectly match the mood of the music… This is all before we get to the main hook of the staccato-laced “Back to the Beginning.”
“Back to the Beginning” by Worldcub is a delightful track filled with one hell of a voluptuous groove. The song is taken from their new album, Back to the Beginning, out on the 17th of May.
