Work Wife - “Something’s Up”
Brooklyn’s own Work Wife have once again cranked out some indie-pop/ rock magic with the new single, “Something’s Up,” out today via Born Loser Records.
After a brief, lo-fi loop of an intro, Meredith Lampe and her merry band of musical cohorts, Cody Edgerly and Kenny Monroe, arrive in full force, throwing down a late ’80s/ early ‘90s-inspired indie arrangement. The vibe is upbeat and inspiring, complete with a constant male + female vocal harmony, which always tends to win us over.
For the first half of “Something’s Up,” the mood is quite chill, perfect for these uncharacteristically warmer days, where it is suddenly an option to crack the windows so that other people can also enjoy your stereo. Midpoint, on the other hand, brings a gritty, reverberating guitar lead that imbues the tune with some edgy attitude, which we are totally here for.
The second half returns to the mellow nature of the verses before relentlessly and gloriously climbing into another finger-blistering crescendo, ultimately ending with the song’s original, lo-fi beginning, perfect for listening on repeat. “Something’s Up” is a track that begs to be heard live, which you can do, as Work Wife are in the midst of a tour (get your tickets fast; they are selling out):
“Something’s Up” arrives ahead of the band’s forthcoming EP, Waste Management, due for an April release on Born Loser Records.
