Wilderado - “In Between”

When it comes to indie rock, we generally prefer a sound that more closely resembles that of The White Stripes or Eagles of Death Metal, but the amount of sonic magic produced by USA-based Wilderado simply cannot and will not be ignored. So, music lovers, please gather ‘round as we celebrate the release of their latest single, “In Between.”

This song first enters your ears with some softly effected guitar, setting the stage for a wonderfully chill escape from anything and everything– the perfect accompaniment for these final weeks of being able to drive with the windows down. The rhythm section simultaneously arrives with the vocal and “In Between” satisfyingly bursts to life, gentle enough for a bout of deep introspection, but anthemic enough to imagine it as an encore.

And speaking of anthemic, lead vocalist Max Rainer has a delightful knack for knowing exactly when to break into his falsetto, allowing it to be cradled by the additional layers of vocals. There appears to be enough folk inside of “In Between” to keep the performance raw and honest, but the amount of energy most assuredly leans into the rock end of the musical spectrum. This causes us to recall some of our favorite songs from Mt. Joy and Rainbow Kitten Surprise, both of whom have shared stages with Wilderado.

Patience will reward you with some fantastic moments of lead guitar and swells of vocal harmonies on the song’s final third. And once you’ve had a listen, it should come as no surprise that the band’s fanbase is as vast as it is… We actually feel kind of ridiculous for never having heard of them until now, but we are most certainly fans at this point, so we guarantee that this will not be the last time you read about Wilderado on UpToHear.
