Vingard - “Into the Woods”

Blending the line between indie pop and indie folk, Vingard arrives on the blog with “Into the Woods,” a spacious and cinematic offering to the world of music.

The track begins with what sounds like some reversed reverb of a guitar’s harmonic feedback, already setting the scene for the ensuing, brilliant ride. Vingard’s elegant vocal then enters, gliding through the melody as she invites you to discover who you really are. The words effortlessly flow from within her and it is obvious that she’s a pro when it comes to performing a song, instead of simply reading words from a sheet of paper– we believe every word that we are hearing.

Once the chorus arrives, the melody shifts and our ears are filled with a delightfully finger-plucked acoustic guitar. With the start of the second verse, Vingard adds some power to her vocal, leaving the production reasonably raw, which, as far as we’re concerned, is a genuine measure of one’s natural talent. Soft percussion joins as a means of foreshadowing the approaching crescendo– one of our favorite aspects of modern folk music, as it tends to fill the empty spaces left by the sparseness of the genre.

By the midway point, we are greeted with a full drum kit and vocal harmonies, once again widening the song’s scope– truly delightful, especially if you have the pleasure of listening through headphones. At just under a three minute runtime, Vingard has managed to hit us with everything that we love about authentic music and you will likely not be able to keep yourself from hitting play a few times, before ultimately adding “Into the Woods” to all of your favorite playlists. This one’s a keeper.
