The One Eighties - “Two Jet Planes”

Raleigh, NC-based The One Eighties first appeared on our blog last year with “No King,” but Autumn and Daniel are back today with “Two Jet Planes.” One of the coolest things about featuring an artist multiple times is hearing the noteworthy dynamics over the course of their songwriting, and that’s exactly what we’ve found here.

When last we heard from them, The One Eighties were hitting some reasonably heavy disco vibes. And while they vowed that it was not their usual brand of music, they’ve made this quite clear with their new one. “Two Jet Planes” is a song that keeps its feet firmly rooted in Americana, yet still boasts a thick and danceable rhythm. The kick drum pounds it out pretty hard, driving a groove from the bass as it pours the foundation to let Autumn’s vocal shine.

Some highlights here, for us, include the dreamy vocal harmonies that have been deployed in all of the right areas. It still amazes us that so many artists fail to realize how game-changing a well-placed vocal harmony can be. And within “Two Jet Planes,” you will find that they completely round out the production, alongside multiple layers of strings and keys. Although this track is definitely not as disco-oriented as their previous offering, that inspiration remains, offering a refreshing take on Americana.

After you’ve heard this one a few times, you’ll be delighted to know that their debut album is due out on August 18. For details on that, follow The One Eighties on Instagram or Facebook.
