Chris McConville, Emily Breeze, & Ricky

The introduction to “Walking Home,” by Chris McConville, was created with an electric Rhodes piano and synth, and then used to pad the song all the way through. Chris does a wonderful job singing and his lyrics are quite introspective, well aware of the world in which we live. "I'm still high and wasted" is a very catchy hook. The drums are perfect from the start and ultimately develop into a driving electronic kit as it progresses. I greatly appreciate how Nunny Boy’s remix incorporates analogue elements, which gives the song real character, and the reverb and delay effects are expertly used. This is some excellent work!

The bass and disco beats in “Ordinary Life,” by Emily Breeze deeply resemble Blondie, but with a stronger post-punk influence. The vocal performance has a Chrissie Hynde/Patti Smith influence. I enjoy how the spoken verses elevate into sung vocals in order to highlight important plot points, with lyrics that have a really sincere, intimate sense to them. You'll find yourself starting to sing along after a few performances. Addictive synth ear candy travels across the field of panning. I also really appreciate the understated, straightforward, jangle guitar riffs and chords. Definitely worth your listening attention!

In his latest track, “Pure Fun,” Ricky provides the listener with a blend of alternative, dream pop, and indie rock that is both new and recognizable. The track is very reminiscent of Doves' more cheerful works. The vocals on this end-of-summer hit are coolly delivered by distorted vocals and the happy, upbeat instrumental makes you want to dance, with the energetic bottom line reinforcing this aspect. The composition is masterfully put together, with a blend of well-chosen percussion, straightforward rhythm guitar, and almost bell-like sounds. As an added bonus, the background harmonies perfectly fill up the gaps in this tune!
