Tobias Arbo - “Recover”
We last heard from Sweden-based Tobias Arbo about a year ago, upon the release of his EP, Powerlines. Today marks his triumphant, folksy return with “Recover,” a song that inspires listeners to bid farewell to winter.
Pressing the play button on this song is the perfect sonic companion for the approaching warmer days. The first signs of “Recover” pour into your ears like a heaping dose of nostalgia, complete with a rolling ambience that would sit very well on the soundtrack to your life.
The gentle sounds of finger-plucked acoustic guitar emerge, causing us to completely forgive Arbo for making us wait a year for this new release. Upon the arrival of his vocal, listeners shall be completely enthralled by the wonderfully double-tracked nature of his voice, warmly reminiscent of Sufjan Stevens.
Some soft notes of a piano make their way to the surface, as well as a splendid vocal harmony that will surely have everyone returning for multiple listens. The prize, however, arrives by way of Arbo’s falsetto on the hook, which quickly burrows its way into your heart, melting away any residual seasonal depression.
By the final third, “Recover” expands into a wide soundscape, revealing the deep notes of a bass and some distant, barebones percussion. If hope had a theme song, it would likely sound exactly like this.
“Recover” comes ahead of Tobias Arbo’s forthcoming LP, due for release later this year.
