The Mammoths - “Daddy”

Austin, Texas-based fuzz rockers The Mammoths have just released the psych-tinged garage rock track, “Daddy.”

Swaggering under a slow, heavy, unpolished and unfussy drum beat, “Daddy” is a bluesy, garage rock beast. Adding depth and locking in tight with the groove is the warm, full-bodied bass. Dark and brooding, you soon find your head bobbing to the slick groove.

Clothing the track are a variety of vintage toned guitar layers. Some elements have healthy doses of atmospheric reverb that pulse with rich, staccato stabs and chords. At the track’s crescendo, thick and fuzzy tones aggressively assert themselves with urgent and trippy sounds. Heightening this vibe are intense swells of vintage tremolo keys.

Cool, laid-back, soulful, and with a slight drawl, the vocal feels completely effortless. Reminiscent of Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys or Alex Turner from The Arctic Monkeys, the delivery exquisitely complements the music by heightening the seductive, mysterious vibe present in the composition.

Daddy” is one of those tracks that just scratches an itch you didn’t even know you had. It is timeless in feel, and dripping with a hint of 1970s stoner rock. The Mammoths have proven again that they simply do not disappoint. The group are currently touring the east coast of the USA– click here to get tickets.
