Sugar Soap - “Living Uptown”
From the east coast of Australia, Sugar Soap have just released the synthpop-infused indie rock track, “Living Uptown.”
“Living Uptown“ is built around a sweet, vintage-tinged, clean electric rhythm guitar part that delightfully avoids ornate playing, leaning instead into chiming chords that provide an upbeat energy. An acoustic guitar pleasingly punctuates this groove in key areas, adding a warm, mellow texture. Further enhancing the arrangement are well-selected synth layers that provide a lush, melodic, and spacious polish on the composition.
Driving “Living Uptown“ forward is a steady, driving drum groove. The straightforward, effective four-on-the-floor beat is irresistible, hypnotic, and wonderfully designed to get any crowd moving. The punchy bass synth is elegantly removed over key areas to create a slick sense of dynamic ebb and flow– in a matter of moments, your foot will definitely be tapping along.
Complementing the vibes is the light, upbeat, and expressive vocal performance. The delivery has pleasing quirks and unique falsetto inflections that truly makes the track memorable and one hell of an earworm. Lyrically, “Living Uptown” describes the feeling of living on a city’s suburbs and the daily commute that ignites a quest for self-discovery and the beginning of new chapters.
Sugar Soap adds: “This track was born out of my constant frustration of sitting in the same place and doing the same thing for too long, and then finally changing it up, to realise that maybe you just needed a break or maybe there’s another place in the world for you. My time spent in the heart of Sydney and Melbourne, and then returning home to my home town of the coast gave me an appreciation for.”
I have sat here an analysed “Living Uptown,” but truly there is no need for you to do that. Just press play and get up and dance.
