Specific Coast - “The You In Me”

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Matt Dunne, aka Specific Coast, has just revealed the remarkably charming sounds of “The You In Me,” a heartfelt and folksy ode to friendship.

Acoustic guitar brings the song to life, creating a raw and intimate foundation upon which the arrangement is built. The mood is rich and faintly somber, but please do not be fooled by the somewhat melancholic vibe that begins this number, for it comes only bearing love and positivity.

Dunne’s vocal is the heart of the track, instilling the soundscape with a warm and tender melody, as well as a truly magnificent sense of nostalgia. His performance has been layered with a constant and subtle harmony that provides a generous and undeniable width to “The You In Me.”

It is not long before the arrangement is populated by the sounds of new elements, including some banjo and a gentle rhythm section. In the distance, the glorious sounds of pedal steel round out the sound, as well as some additional vocal layers that drift through the sonic space like a dreamy breeze.

A wide and reverberating electric guitar trades some licks with the banjo in a final melodic game of call and response before the last set of choruses. Time has a way of creating physical distance between us and the ones we love, but with “The You In Me,” Specific Coast has wonderfully crafted a mellifluous bridge that binds everyone together.
