Slung - “Neurotic”

From Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom, Slung have just released the confessional alt-rock debut single, “Neurotic.”

Neurotic” is a powerful track that draws you into the dark, gritty, and atmospheric sonic realm of Slung. While the main electric guitars possess a lush, heavy, and brooding textural quality, there’s an ethereal, ambient, and dreamy element simmering in the spaces of the mix. This might be due to the compelling vocal melodies and layers that flow and intertwine throughout the composition. The vocals can only be described as intimate, haunting, and otherworldly, lingering with a melancholic presence across the track. These immersive vocals build deliciously to a crescendo of intense, primordial raw emotion.

Powering the song forward are the progressively hard-hitting, punchy drums that would provides the same energy of any heavy rock track with Dave Grohl behind the kit. Breaking away from the genre is the bass, which opts for a thick, soothing, and deep tone, rather than a heavily distorted and gravelly, overdriven sound. Together, these elements create a tight rhythmic backbone that feels overwhelmingly hypnotic.

Vocalist Katie Oldham speaks about the meaning of “Neurotic:” “The song is a series of small moments from my life that have been representative of this more encompassing overall fear of disempowerment and relinquishing control… the song is representative of so much vulnerability: imposter syndrome, fear of letting people down, fear of failure, losing control, literal disempowerment...”

Moody and dark, like a feverish dream, “Neurotic” is an intoxicating and hauntingly atmospheric track you simply do not want to miss. Connect with Slung: Spotify | Instagram | Bandcamp | Facebook | YouTube | Website
