Slow Coast - “Double Vision”
California-based Matt Lawton, aka Slow Coast, returns with the refreshing indie pop-rock track, “Double Vision.”
“Double Vision” features some dazzling guitar layers that, in many ways, are reminiscent of the garage rock revival textures from The Strokes’ “Is This It.” Tight, angular, lightly distorted, and full of pulsing staccato grooves, the sounds flow with an energetic yet laid-back vibe that’s hard to resist.
However, for me, the standout musical element is not the guitars but the tone and driving layer of the baggy sounding bass… it simply steals the show. This element wouldn’t feel out of place on Tame Impala’s Currents or Lonerism. Dreamy and verging on trippy, it stunningly punctuates the ebb and flow of this cracking track whilst contrasting the snug layers above it.
Slow Coast serves up a great vocal that leans more into classic indie pop rock rather than the nonchalant swagger of Julian Casablancas or the hazy Lennon-esque whimper of Kevin Parker. Smooth, fluid, it weaves with the music with a cool sense of confidence.
On the track Slow Coast adds: “This song explores the paradox of feeling on top of the world one moment and worthless the next; and the internal battle of overcoming this feeling.” “Double Vision” is a joyful, catchy slice of indie pop rock that just feels right in every sense of the word. It also underscores Slow Coast’s ability to keep knocking the ball out of the park. This one is not to be missed.
