A glimpse into the work of Si Connelly

London-based Si Connelly is an ambitious singer/songwriter, aiming to release a new EP every month. His seventh EP of the year, simply entitled July EP, is a short stack of three songs, each glistening with shimmering production and glorious vocal melodies, immediately obvious on the EP’s opener, “Fire.”

I know this is weird to say, and some might argue, but there are times when I swear I can hear a sort of Michael Jackson/Jeff Buckley hybrid thing happening. Seriously, listen to “Fire" and tell me that I’m wrong (I’m not). This does not sound like your everyday earful of indie; it sounds much larger than that.

I have always been a fan of smooth vocal harmonies/oohs and ahhs, so my favorite of the three is track two, “Lion Eyes.” The steady kick drum holds the tempo for another journey through more of fantastic vocal work; however, the hook on “Staircase” keeps it at a close second, especially with that sweet breakdown at the three minute mark. Connelly has the rare ability to sing differently for each new song and, truly, all three cuts are a wonderful showcase of his dynamics and compositional craft.

After spending some time living out of his car, these, days, Connelly has been gaining the attention of numerous industry bigwigs. He has just come off of a UK tour in support of Ocean Colour Scene and Dexys Midnight Runners, so he should now have plenty of time to devote to the remaining five EPs of 2022. And we are absolutely looking forward to each of them.
