The Forensics - “Change My Mind”

The Forensics are four blokes from Lancashire, set to reveal their first single, “Change My Mind,” on July 26th.

In true “you’re about to an anthem” fashion, this indie pop song opens with a stripped back version of the chorus, just before drummer Dan Lewis offers the listener a very danceable, pulsating kick drum that finally erupts into full band accompaniment, with Jordan King’s guitar melody, at this point, practically reaching ear worm status.

Among their influences, they list The Smiths, though I do not hear any of that here. They also mention The Verve, which is somewhat noticeable in Liam Reilly’s vocal performance; he hits all the right notes and has just enough of an edge to remain distinct amongst the other bands in their class of indie rock.

Gluing the track together is Jamie Smith on the four string. I am well aware that bass players often get the least amount of words in a review, but I will say that without Smith’s handy work, the track would lose some merit on the dance floor, which this song may be filling by the end of the summer.

The bottom line is that “Change My Mind” is a great way for The Forensics to introduce themselves to music fans living outside of Lancashire, especially those who are keen on snappy pop songs with a danceable groove and thoughtful lyrics that could be about love, friendship, or both.
