Sea Caves - “Turning”
From Portland, Oregon, Sea Caves have just released the sonically enchanting track, “Turning.”
“Turning” is a gentle and melodic song driven by the weaving, clean, chiming tones of acoustic guitar. Inspired by a Keith Richards guitar tuning, the guitar evokes a sprightly dance before transitioning into warmer rhythmic strumming grooves, creating a pleasing ebb and flow to this mid-tempo tune.
Richly textured drums fill “Turning“ with a hypnotic sense of syncopation, while the bass provides soothing support. Emerging from these layers are Dave Sitek-esque meditative, immersive waves of ambient, reverberated textures that invite you to get lost in this intricate track. This is delightfully pushed to the fore in the track’s final stages with an ambient psych-tinged coda.
The vocals have a pleasing, unique timbre that permeates the track with an earthy etherealness. Soft, gentle, and expressive, the delivery is supported by warm Moody Blues-esque harmonising layers that add a haunting, pleasing depth.
Regrading the lyrics, Sea Caves add that they “…were born out of this experience of a relationship ending abruptly and that feeling of being lost and not tethered to any sense of self. And, at the same time, it’s about growing into yourself and finding something new to work toward. It’s that inflection point of seeing a new road in the midst of feeling so lost.”
