Say Lou Lou - “Above Love”
Composed of twins Elektra and Miranda Kilbey, from Sweden-based Say Lou Lou have just released the alluring indie pop track “Above Love.”
“Above Love” is built around a steady, crisp, tight and punchy four-on-the-floor drum groove. The beat has a slightly modern, electronic vibe with prominent snare and kick that gives the track an almost hypnotic danceable beat. Underneath, the bass beautifully drives the song forward with its rich, funky, groove laden pulse. The production of these elements is incredibly clean, slick and polished, imbuing the track with a provocative and alluring atmosphere.
The arrangement is elegantly minimalist, with synth layers applied over key areas to increase the sense of building tension and to enjoyably grow the track’s dynamics. The rich texture ranges from vibrant swirls to ambient pulses that tenderly hug the vocals. The intimate vocal delivery by Say Lou Lou remains smooth, effortless, and adorably expressive throughout. The performance ranges from vulnerability to seductive intensity. This rich nature is strikingly enhanced with all the dazzling gloss of a modern indie pop production, featuring sleek backing vocals that enhance the lyrical narrative.
On the track, Say Lou Lou discuss a moment from the film, Maestro: “…There was one scene… Carey Mulligan’s character is having lunch with Sarah Silverman’s, and when talking about her husband says, “let’s not make excuses, he didn’t fail me, it’s my own arrogance to think I could survive on what he could give.” What a perfectly articulate way to put it! To realise one’s own culpability in staying with someone we knew from day one wouldn’t be able to meet one’s need.”
“Above Love” is a mesmerising, provocative and enveloping indie pop track that you will find hard to resist. The single follows hot on the heels of Say Lou Lou’s five-track EP, Dust Pt. 1, which serves as the first taster of the band’s third full length album, slated for release this Autumn.
