Sam Weber - “Oregon”
North Saanich, Canada-based singer-songwriter Sam Weber has just released the reflective indie rock track, “Oregon.”
“Oregon” is a laid-back and slow-grooving track that is interestingly founded on the fairly quick pulse of bass and tom drums. This gives a hypnotic, deep anchor and cohesion to the song, but also wonderfully enhances the space above these elements in the composition, allowing the other layers to breathe and drift breezily over the top.
The rest of the drum kit and percussion, such as tambourine, which is rich in rustic texture, offer a sweet drum groove full of variation, which helps to keep the track engaging. “Oregon” appears to have been crafted for roadtrips, whether cross-country or simply to the grocery store. Touches of acoustic guitar tenderly enhance the feelings of warmth, intimacy, and reflection with mellow bursts of texture.
The warm, intimate vocal of Sam Weber is beautifully soulful and emotive. It is rich with a coating of reverb, wonderfully delivering storytelling that is nothing short of atmospheric.
On the track, Weber explains: “‘Oregon’ was written on a trip to Ashland. We were renting a casita on this big property where all these hippies lived. It’s a bit of a sensory abstract poem that just sort of emerged. I think the imagery is my own from the I-5 corridor, seeing the lush green flora, very pagan-beautiful, natural imagery of the state, contrasted with the scraps of humanity strewn around. And the progressive culture of Portland.”
“Oregon” is a strikingly soulful and meditative track that is rich in magnificent texture and passionate vocals. The track is taken from the forthcoming LP, Clear + Plain, set for release August 23rd.
