Sadie Ava - “Say You Want Me”
From her forthcoming EP, Portland’s Sadie Ava has just released “Say You Want Me,” a track that explores the fear of rejection.
The song initially enters the ears as a gentle piano ballad amidst an ocean of glorious reverb. Rising above these waves of resonance is Sadie Ava’s vocal, delicate and authentic as she lays her heart before the listener. The subdued ticks of a percussive element start to emerge, providing a bit of foreshadowing for the approaching lift. And suddenly, the resounding sounds of a kick drum fill the sonic space, coupled with the tender strums from an acoustic guitar.
On the refrain, the rhythm picks up momentum, as demonstrated by the dominance of the beat, as well as the chords being pounded out of the piano. Bass arrives to round out the arrangement, and the soundscape spreads its wings to include some strings and the occasional pluck from a banjo. All of this churns and crescendos as Sadie’s vocal grows with a vulnerable intensity. At its peak, our ears are met with the fantastic sounds of additional vocal layers, which, at this point, was the only thing that was missing.
For those of you about to dive into the deep end of putting-yourself-out-there, let “Say You Want Me” become your courage.
