Rose Hotel - “King and a Pawn”
Atlanta-based singer, songwriter Rose Hotel has just released the retro-toned indie rock track, “King and a Pawn.”
“King and a Pawn” has a certain 1970s vibe, as if it were a Fleetwood Mac track from the Rumours era. It is driven by an almost Mick Fleetwood-esque drum groove, filled with lush accents, syncopation, and beautiful, dynamic fills that create a feeling of tension and release. The bass underneath is, similarly, a John McVie masterclass in supporting a track, with great rhythmic and harmonic awareness.
The track is dressed with well-chosen layers of piano, sustaining reflectively, and exquisite guitar tones. Rhythmic palm muting is used throughout on one guitar to create a staccato pattern that helps to build tension. The lead guitar tones vary from ambient shimmers to glistening licks, infusing a gritty, bluesy sense of emotional intensity.
The expressive vocal performance on “King and a Pawn“ is filled with a satisfying sense authenticity that perfectly complements the rock-orientated sound. Harmonies beautifully support the performance, adding a richness and depth whilst also bringing a striking anthemic quality.
“King and a Pawn” is taken from Rose Hotel’s new album, A Pawn Surrender, which is now available everywhere. Connect with Rose Hotel: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook
