Rec Hall - “Delay”

from California, USA, indie psych trio Rec Hall have just released their new record, Otherworld, so we decided to take a look at the EP’s focus track: “Delay.”

“Delay” is a song brimming full of vibrant textures wrapped up in an incredibly slick mix– whether it is the modulated synth that nostalgically and hypnotically pads the track, psychedelic layers that shimmer and swirl in all the right places, or the fuzzy, dark bass that fills out the low end. When coupled with the crisp, entrancing drums, the song could easily be a deep cut lifted off one of The Chemical Brothers‘ albums.

Leading us breezily through the awesome grooves is a passionate, ethereal vocal. Pulsing in a healthy coating of reverb and delay the performance sounds as if it is beautifully captured in an endless, dreamy corridor. Like a psychedelic sensory overload, Rec Hall once again deliver a riotous banger full of shape-shifting grooves with “Delay.” Their new EP is worthy of any music lover’s time.

Rec Hall bassist Ben Tyrell adds: “With our new EP, we crafted a sound palette much more nuanced and strange - the frenetic, live drums and looping guitars, the high shimmering vocals, and the phasing, buzzing basses. Even with the lyrics - alien worlds in “Bored with My Feet,” life spent spiralling in “Delay,” and a transformative night in “Joyride” - we wanted listeners to feel they were tapping into something otherworldly.”
