Pet Snake - “Trust Issues”

Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Evelyn Halls, aka Pet Snake, returns to the blog with “Trust Issues,” a fresh single from her brand new, contemplative EP, Hard.

Pet Snake has the remarkable gift of consistently nailing our niche, no matter the style of music. From the indie folk vibes of “Coffee,” to the more dream-pop infused rock sounds of her more recent material, we have found ourselves looking forward to each new release.

The lo-fi rhythm that sets “Trust Issues” into motion is immediately inviting, paving a perfect, melancholic path for the arrival of shimmering and reverberating guitar chords. Halls’ vocal is extremely raw, completely void of any autotune and, for the most part, appears to have been captured in minimal takes. This leaves a profound sense of humanness in the performance, which we truly cannot resist.

The layers of auxiliary vocals that arrive on the refrain will most assuredly bring you back to “Trust Issues” for multiple listening sessions. The music of Pet Snake is often just as relatable as it is mellifluous– something we recognized the first time that we pressed the play button.

About the track, Halls adds that “It’s about masking your true self in certain situations and seeing someone else doing that and realising that that brings you closer and makes you allies, whilst at the same time creating a chasm. It’s complex, but it’s ok, coz it’s “just us”.”

If you are in the market for some authentic indie pop-rock from Liverpool, we highly recommend checking out “Trust Issues“ as well as the rest of Hard, which you can do today, thanks to Dance To The Radio:
