Oscilla - “Drink Up The Sun“
San Francisco-based indie project Oscilla are back on the blog with the title track from their new EP, “Drink Up The Sun.”
The song begins with a lo-fi beat akin to the nostalgic sounds of a Casio keyboard, imbuing the arrangement with a retro heartbeat as digital swells of ethereal elements fill in the empty spaces. It is not long before a melody rises to the surface, comprised of a duet that consists of guitar and piano.
The vocal performance of Frances England soon appears, breathily instilling the composition with a human touch. Her delivery maintains the lo-fi vibe first set forth by the instrumental, with angelic moments of falsetto that ensure “Drink Up The Sun” shall find its way into all of your summer-time playlists.
Ear candy comes in waves of mellifluous textures from the keys, as well as a remarkable vocal harmony that is simply irresistible. The entire arrangement appears to have been saturated in an analogue tape warble that only elevates its classic, nostalgic appeal.
Drink Up the Sun was produced and mixed by Omar Akrouche, with mastering by Phillip Shaw Bova and drums/ percussion provided by Jason Slota. The EP is now available on all major streaming platforms.
