Noak Hellsing - “Empty the Bags”

Stockholm, Sweden-based singer-songwriter Noak Hellsing has just released retro-tinged disco track, “Empty the Bags.”

Empty the Bags” is built around a classic four-on-the-floor disco drum beat. This gives a relentless sense of energetic, pulsing and hypnotic momentum, making you want to get lost in the layers and vocals that slickly clothe the track. The beat also gives a pleasing stability which even the worst dancers, like me, can move to.

Adding complexity, syncopation and ear candy are more classic percussive layers, such as bongos, snappy hi-hats and handclaps. The lively, melodic and catchy bass sets off this unstoppable groove with a tight, funky performance. Its rich and thick presence in the mix delightfully makes the arrangement feel cohesive.

Electric guitar is deployed with subtle rhythmic stabs and funky shimmers of expressive sound. Keys are also used to give hints of refined melodic and harmonic interest. Together these layers truly make the track feel infectious and vibrant.

The vocal of Hellsing is delivered with a lush, smooth, and polished tone. His voice has a gentle, soulfulness that reaches exciting falsetto tones with ease. Supported by great harmonising and group sounding retro-tinged backing layers, the performance really hits home the memorable hooks with well executed phrase repetition.

On the track, Hellsing adds: “‘Empty the Bags‘ is more than just a song. It’s a powerful narrative about dedication and unconditional love. It’s about how far we’re willing to go to protect what’s dear to us.”

Empty the Bags” is a really funky, danceable track that plays homage to that golden era of 1970s disco. The track is the first song to be released from Noak Hellsing’s second EP, SHIFT, set to be released on July 18th via the independent label TEN Music Group.
