Night Tapes - “every day is a game”
UK-based Night Tapes return to the blog with the release of their stunning dream pop track, “every day is a game.”
This track is elegantly stripped back with minimal instrumentation. Chilled synth tones hazily bubble up in places, helping to enrich the song melodically. Subtle touches of guitar, reminiscent of Nick McCabe from the early years of The Verve, add splashes of rich expansiveness. The drums provide a light sense of forward momentum, but it is the bass that truly shines among the musical elements. It pulsates vibrantly underneath, creating a wonderful sense of joyful movement.
The vocals on “every day is a game“ bear a striking similarity to Grimes, just with a more pronounced sense of diction. As a huge fan of Grimes, myself, it makes this track a joy to hear. The high-pitched, airy vocals evoke a soothing vibe, seamlessly blending with the music and acting almost as though an instrument itself. As the song gradually builds to its gentle crescendo, the vibes become reminiscent of Grimes’ track “Dream Fortress.” A beautiful sense of emotion radiates from the tones, exuding an otherworldly intimacy and vulnerability.
Speaking about the track’s themes of love and duality, Liris Vesik, lead singer from Night Tapes, says: “The romantic idea of relationships that we’ve been taught through stories and movies, is that the other will complete us and when we find them, then we’ll live happily ever after. But what if the aim isn’t for two to become one, but to develop two strong worlds and well-organised communication between the two? We are individually responsible for our own happiness - taking care of our own world and leaving space for the other to take care of theirs.”
“every day is a game” by Night Tapes is a profoundly lush little track, filled with joyful musical layers and strikingly immersive vocals.
