Niamh Regan - “Waves”

Upon the release of Ireland-based singer-songwriter Niamh Regan’s new album, Come As You Are, we bring you another single entitled “Waves.”

The song begins as though a quiet, melodic conversation between artist and listener, with deeply heartfelt lyrics strewn across the top of a lone piano. Over the past several months, we’ve come to learn that Regan’s voice will win us over every single time. She has a remarkable flair for demanding that we believe every word that she delivers– “Waves” is no exception.

For the entire first half of the song, listeners shall be completely mesmerized by how Regan reaches directly into her listener, allowing them to lose themselves entirely within the performance. We are consistently drawn to these lo-fi and intimate recordings because there is absolutely no place to hide, resulting in a true measure of artistry and craft. And on that note, you will not find any digital manipulation or autotune within “Waves.”

Just past midpoint, the rhythm section arrives, resulting in a magnificent elevation as “Waves” enters a steady crescendo. The arrangement is suddenly flooded with life, including swelling strings and a steady beat that propels the track forward. An ear-worm refrain is brought to the surface: “Come as you are… I’m gonna love you if I have to…” which we assume is where the album found its title.

After winning us over with the song’s raw and intimate outset, Regan completely floors her listeners with the epically emotional and anthemic second half. For this reason, we will be leaving “Waves” playing on repeat for the foreseeable future– you should try doing the same.

Niamh Regan’s sophomore LP, Come As You Are, is now available everywhere via Faction Records. Connect with her across the vastness of the internet: Spotify | Apple Music | Instagram | Bandcamp | Facebook
