Natalie Del Carmen - “The Highway”

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Natalie Del Carmen has arrived on our blog with her latest folksy release, “The Highway.”

This tune gets started with a remarkable duet of acoustic guitar and banjo, lending a rural vibe that provides some dusty roads for your journey through introspection. The rhythmic nature of the guitar flawlessly melds with the melodic character of the banjo and, together, they perfectly set “The Highway” on its intimately chill course.

At only twenty-two years of age, Del Carmen’s vocal already sounds as though it has garnered an entire lifetime of experience. She has the ability to effortlessly glide from a worn-in and breathy delivery to her full-throttled upper register, resulting in a performance that will bring you back to “The Highway” for multiple listens.

The track is reasonably barebones, but Del Carmen has employed multiple servings of ear candy via some deep, vintage-tinged bass and an angelic vocal harmony that will surely enchant all who hear. But another highlight here is the sublime melody consistently delivered though the banjo. And after learning that the instrument once belonged to Del Carmen’s grandfather, we have a feeling that these are some of her favorite moments within the song as well.

The Highway” is a rich metaphor for the way we often use music to process our emotions as we get from point A to point B. And if you have a playlist that you utilize for such journeys, we recommend adding this song into the mix, as it will definitely get you where you need to go.
