Nat Vazer - “Rumours”

From her upcoming LP, Strange Adrenaline, Melbourne’s Nat Vazer combines dream pop and indie rock to give us the summer scorcher “Rumours.”

This track begins with some lo-fi vibes from an acoustic guitar, soon joined by some thick bass and a steady rhythm. However, what completely sold us on “Rumours” was the gentle and moody tone of Vazer’s voice. The lyrics effortlessly and emotionally glide into your ears with a vocal that possesses the very dreaminess that made us such big fans of the genre in the first place. They are a perfect blend of Annie Lennox and Phoebe Bridgers, while still being able to confidently stand on their own.

A lower vocal harmony appears, adding a glorious thickness to the hook, with some well-placed ambience from a lead guitar. After the second chorus, our ears receive much more of this sound in all of its ethereal, reverberated glory. The final refrain glides above this ocean of resounding bliss, ultimately building up to a fantastic crescendo. The reverb swells to a climax before concluding with one final taste of that acoustic guitar.

This is our first time hearing from Vazer, but if “Rumours” is indicative of the soundscapes that Strange Adrenaline will behold, the world is in for one hell of a sonic treat.
