Naked Giants - “Apartment 3”

From their forthcoming LP, Shine Away, Seattle-based Naked Giants have just released the new single, “Apartment 3.”

After a quick intro from the drum kit, “Apartment 3” fills your ears with some spirited guitar chords. The vocal performance arrives with the bass line, culminating in a sound that is warmly reminiscent of Car Seat Headrest and Pavement. The vibe is immediately upbeat and energetic– this is the type of song that makes you happy to be alive as soon as it hits your ears.

The main vocal is supported by a subtle, lower harmony that lends a distinct, satisfying indie-ness to the sonic space, akin to that of Weezer and Modest Mouse. In fact, there are so many good things occurring in “Apartment 3” that it is bound to hit you like a steep shot of nostalgia, providing a vibrant soundtrack to a three-minute movie of your fondest memories.

And as much as we thoroughly enjoy the grittiness of the verses, it is the more stripped-back and acoustically-driven underbelly that will bring us back to the song for multiple listening sessions. Imbued with glorious lines and licks from the lead guitar, “Apartment 3” will have you bopping your head and singing along in no time.

If you have ever read our blog, you’ll know that we generally maintain a reasonably melancholic course– it is not always easy to win us over with an optimistic approach to songwriting. But there is something pure and enchanting happening within “Apartment 3,” which will be obvious as soon as you press that play button.

Apartment 3” is taken from Naked Giants's new album, Shine Away, due for release on October 4, 2024. Connect with Naked Giants: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Website | Bandcamp
