Muo Duo - “Exciting Times”

New York City-based siblings Miles and Winter Donnelly, aka Muo Duo, arrive on our blog with the indie-rocking power pop-ness of their new single: “Exciting Times.”

They do not waste anyone’s time with this one, immediately getting things started with a full-band production. An upbeat tempo is provided via the drums, with a deep bass laying a thick foundation. Atop this bouncing rhythm section, a guitar chimes out some chords of compete and total exuberance– these are, indeed, ‘exciting times,’ and the bliss permeating from the track is indisputable.

Miles and Winter embark on this vocal journey together, in constant unison throughout the song’s duration. A major highlight here, of course, is the hook, when a bit of poppy charm from the 1990s rises to the surface, warmly reminiscent of Crumb, Wet Leg, and even some Dandy Warhols for you old-timers. All of this has been nicely sealed with an ear-worm synth that paints a vivid melody amidst some top-shelf syncopation in the rhythm.

If you’ve been scouring the DSPs for a song to get you psyched up for the weekend, look no further than “Exciting Times.” From the verses marked by a bass-driven freeway of bliss, to the shimmering guitars and lines of synth, this song is bound to turn even the smallest gathering into a full-blown dance party– just be sure to turn it up so your neighbors can enjoy it as well.
