“TRUCK” – innovative but accessible indie psychedelic music
I first came across Motorbike James when I heard his song “MeRoll…” then I fell in love with his album, Viisions, which is easily my favourite for 2021… He isn’t a mediocre Tame Impala copy psych act… he is unique and owns his own style… and… I have been eagerly anticipating his next move… He hasn’t disappointed me with his new single “TRUCK.”
The first thing that hits you about this instant “summer” track is its truly unique psychedelic style. The off kilter, choppy guitar sounds and noodling are playfully kicked along by a boxy drum sound. The sweet melodies are joyful and somehow nostalgic, hinting at the ‘60s Beatles songs and has Britpop sensibilities, with a more refined and grounded edge. The icing of the cake is the smooth, breezy vocal, which is Motorbike James’s signature….
With great vocals and excellent production, that leaves only one more box to check off – song writing. “TRUCK” isn’t a deep, transcendently penned song in the least, but it is definitely enjoyable and entertaining to the nth degree. Motorbike James repeats “let’s go for a ride” like a mantra of catchy fun. The only critique I have is I have to wait for more!
