Sweden-based indie folk singer-songwriter Malin Verheij has just released her new EP, To Cry For, To Lean On, To Love, so we decided to take a look at the record’s focus track, “Hold On To Me.”
Inspired by the steadfast devotion of Malin’s grandfather, to both his wife and Malin herself, “Hold On To Me” is a track brimming full of powerful emotion wrapped in delicate, tender layers. Built around the warm sounds of acoustic guitar, the track ebbs and flows with finesse and grace in the way that all personal letters of love should.
Slow, steady and divinely intimate, the song tenderly flourishes into something rousing and immersively beautiful. Piano and percussion coated in cathedral-like reverb allows the composition to swell like waves breaking against the rocks that line the shore.
At the centre of the track is the astonishingly radiant vocal of Malin Verheij.
