Maida Rose - “Worthwhile”

Upon the release of their new EP, Philia, Dutch dream pop duo Javièr den Leeuw and Roos Meijer, aka Maida Rose, return to the blog with their single, “Worthwhile.”

The song begins straightaway, with a dreamlike arrangement that boasts an elaborate and ethereal synth. Lining the underbelly of the song, the bass and drums are bound tightly together in an analogue infusion that immediately draws in the listener. And rounding out the sound are the elegant strums from an acoustic guitar, allowing us to lose ourselves within the deep and rich textures of the production.

Meijer’s vocal soon arrives, reminding us why we fell in love with Maida Rose in the first place. Her voice is soft and delicate as it gently delves into some relatable subject matter: the struggle of trying to overcome depression. Listeners shall marvel at the way she effortlessly lets her vocal rise and fall as it mellifluously paints a soothing portrait of the ebbs and flows that come along with the human experience.

The chorus brings us doubled vocals and a creamy, melodic bass line that gracefully dances through the arrangement. It is here where lovers of music will find hope and refuge from the darkness that resides within their own hearts, particularly at this time of year.

Please note that one that does not need to know depression in order to enjoy this delightfully dreamy tune. “Worthwhile” has been masterfully crafted to ensure that it will appeal to the vast majority of music enthusiasts and we suggest you get it into your ears as soon as possible, along with the rest of the EP, now available everywhere:
