MacGregor Burns - “Silent Answers”

The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter MacGregor Burns has just released the glamorously detached post punk track, “Silent Answers.”

Silent Answers” is an incredibly distinct track that has a pleasing rawness, yet sophisticated at the same time. The song explores themes of self-discovery and the quest for meaning through a strung-out groove pinned down by the minimalistic supporting drums and a prominent, swooping bass line. Fleshing out the composition is an atmospheric synth organ, whilst electric guitar is used eclectically, much like Mick Ronson’s contributions to Lou Reed’s Transformer.

Direct, raw, and unpolished, MacGregor Burns serves up a refreshingly real narrative vocal performance. Filled with detachment and an almost deadpan sense of melody the delivery is pleasingly unique and spellbinding. “Silent Answers” is a remarkably natural sounding track with refreshingly intimate vocals and a dynamic warmth only found on 1970s classics. The song is taken from MacGregor Burns’ forthcoming album, slated for release later this year.
