Lila Tristram - “Baby”
From the United Kingdom, singer-songwriter Lila Tristram has recently released the enchanting sounds of “Baby.”
The track fades in with a wonderfully intricate acoustic guitar performance, providing “Baby” with a folksy undertone; however, the arrival of ‘80s-inspired synth tones and a lo-fi rhythm section gently steer the production into the realm of indie rock. Ambient flourishes masterfully decorate the arrangement, allowing for both a mesmerizing and engaging listening experience.
Once we heard Tristram’s breathy and intimate vocal performance, we knew we had no choice but to feature “Baby” on the blog. Like the instrumental, her voice leaves it impossible to be pigeonholed into a specific style, likely resonating with fans across multiple genres. Careful listeners will detect the sublime, subtle vocal harmony that often adheres to the main delivery, enhancing the track’s overall sonic depth.
“Baby” is a song that delves into the scores of emotions that rise to the surface with new love. Tristram adds: “All my songs are so sad. I wanted to write a song which would make people want to dance.” That said, there is still enough melancholy clinging to its walls to effectively nail our preferences for a darker sound and subject matter.
“Baby” features Heledd Owen (Prima Queen, Adwaith) on drums, and Tim Gardner (RY X) on synth. It was co-produced by Gus White (Madeline Ashman, Edward Cross) and mastered by Tim Debney (Sufjan Stevens, Thom Yorke). We cannot wait for you to hear it and we believe that it is a perfect fit for fans of Andy Shauf, Big Thief, Hand Habits, Julia Jacklin, and/ or Bess Atwell
