Laura Lucas - “The Dreamer”
Canadian-born, Australian-based singer-songwriter Laura Lucas has just released the meditative indie folk number “The Dreamer.” The track is brimmed full of warm introspective melodies and exquisitely intimate vocals.
“The Dreamer” opens to mellow, reflective acoustic guitar that forms the composition’s backbone. The playing permeates soothing tones and offers warm, lush texture. Bass soon joins, providing a satisfying pulse and a rich, deep foundation. Whether it is the splashes of shimmering delay-coated electric guitar, breezy vintage mellotron, or subtle, reversed-key sounds, layers are applied thoughtfully to heighten the dazzling meditative vibes.
As the track reaches the midpoint, the dynamics begin to grow satisfyingly, thanks to the gentle push of a lo-fi drum groove. A magnificent reverberating soundscape also floods the audio field, providing enthralling dreamy melodies that imbue a sense of reflective wonder. A magnificent highlight in this section is the tambourine that heightens the track’s swagger.
The vocals of Laura Lucas are nothing short of stunning. The breathy and intimate performance perfectly complements the track’s vibes whilst giving a captivating sense of soothing vulnerability. The song is the title track for her new EP.
On the EP, Lucas says: “In a way, all of these songs are about wanting – wanting and not having, wanting and being afraid of the thing you want, wanting and having to let go, or realising you don’t want the thing you thought you wanted. It’s not always easy to know what you want, and I think these songs reflect someone who is in the process of figuring that out."
“The Dreamer” is a testament to Lucas’ excellent songwriting skills. This highly reflective track will sweep you away with its prolific soundscape and soothing vocals.
