Kuni - “Supposed To Be”

Rome-based singer-songwriter Eleonora Danese, aka Kuni, has just released the infectious, dream-pop laced “Supposed To Be.”

Supposed To Be opens with the folky texture of an acoustic guitar, providing a rich, warm, and intimate rhythmic foundation. But Kuni soon reveals that this track is a vibrant musical journey when we are hit by the sweet choruses. Here, a steady and tight, four-on-the-floor drum beat provides a sense of irresistible momentum that simply sweeps you off of your feet. The atmospheric, nostalgic layering of mellow slide guitar dreamily swells underneath as a shaker adds to the pleasing sense of swagger.

As we reach the final third of the track, the production shifts magnificently into a unfaltering, dream-pop sound. Driving fuzzy guitar pulsates as flares of ethereal electric guitar shimmer and swirl vividly. Kuni’s vocal is wonderfully expressive, imbuing the track with intimacy, vulnerability, and sweetness. When the track enters the dream-pop atmospherics, it becomes wondrously uplifting, reminding me of Grimes during her Art Angels era.

Supposed To Be,” released via Factory Flaws, is a song that truly should not be missed. It is a marvelous journey of sound that only gets better and better after each listen. This track marks the fifth time that we’ve featured Kuni, which lands her inside of our Hall of Fame.
