Kibby - “Trouble It Takes”

New York City-based Kibby has just released the retro-tinged garage rock track, “Trouble It Takes.”

The song is built around a sweet syncopated drum groove that has a healthy sense of swing.  The mood is automatically captivating, hypnotic and invigoratingly dark. Underneath, the bass almost growls with its rich, thick pulsating tone.

Adorning the track are lush, fuzzed out, gritty and raw guitar layers. The aggressively loose, unpolished lo-fi sounds chug with an enjoyable intensity. The tones make me think of Malachai’s album, Ugly Side of Love, as it percolates that same psych-inspired vibe. It also builds the same sense of tension, anticipation, and agreeable unease.

Complementing the dark, retro mood is the distorted vocal, which brings a pleasing cohesion, authenticity, and emotional intensity to the track. The textural fuzziness is reminiscent of Whatever Happened to My Rock ‘n’ Roll (Punk Song)” by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Kibby describes this atmospherically charged track as: “A driving and brooding track about the dangers of pride. This song is written from the perspective of a bad person who doesn’t know they are bad and just wants a little recognition for all their hard work.”

Trouble It Takes” is taken from the forthcoming album, Whatever Happened To Honor, slated for release this August. Connect with Kibby: Spotify | Instagram | Bandcamp
