JW Francis + Paul Cherry - “I Love You 2”

JW Francis and Paul Cherry from the USA have just released the breezy, sun-drenched indie rock track “I Love You 2.”

I Love You 2” is simply a gem of a track that is filled with wonderful, yet delicate contrasts. The hypnotic grooves created by the hazy drum beat and warm pulsing bass feel almost like a woozy memory. The rhythm is gentle but it doesn’t drag its feet, in fact quite the opposite and it’s not hard imagining yourself dancing to this tender rocker.

Subdued, yet energetic electric guitar enhances the pulse whilst sublime, saturated extra layers of lead guitar flare up, warble and shimmer magically. The music is good and feels almost like JW Francis and Paul Cherry’s answer to Canned Heat’s “Going Up The Country.”

The vocals serve as a great counterpoint to the laid-back, easy-going music. Engaged, yet intimate and breathy the performance is rich with character and nuances – much in the same way as how you’d imagine a more refined Lou Reed during his tenure at the Velvet Underground.

On the track JW Francis adds: “This is a sequel song to my track “I Love You.” Paul Cherry and I had a lot of fun with this track, it almost sounds like Paul is doing an impression of me. The verse melody is the bass line from my song I Love You. I love it.”

I Love You 2” is an effortlessly wistful track filled with infectiously loose and buoyant layers. The track is taken from is taken JW Francis and Paul Cherry’s collaborative EP, ICED MERLOT, which is out now.
