Dorian Sorriaux - “I Believe That You Can Change”

France-based Dorian Sorriaux has just released the soulful indie folk track “I Believe That You Can Change.”

I Believe That You Can Change” is built around an ascending acoustic finger picking pattern that paints a hypnotic atmosphere. The bass notes of the acoustic are allowed to sustain, creating a sense of a walking groove that radiates a brooding moodiness. Over the top, a shaker establishes a slow, swaying drive that pleasingly foreshadows the percussive rhythm of the drums.

Layers are thoughtfully applied in order to enhance the atmosphere. Slick electric slide guitar cries howling tones in all the right places, while a lower, sustaining piano brings weight to the walking acoustic groove and an organ melts introspectively into the remaining gaps.

Over the chorus sections, the track grows majestically. The organ raises an octave as high piano notes soothingly arpeggiate. This reflective and mellow atmosphere is exquisitely consolidated by waves of shimmering electric guitar.

The vocal performance of Dorian Sorriaux is strikingly nuanced and brimmed full of emotion. The verse sections have an intimate, meditative quality that draws you into the composition. As the chorus sections hit, the vocal performance soars and permeates a sense of soul and power. With their rich spiritual backing, the layered, uplifting choir vocals serve to further accentuate this feeling of soulfulness.

Lyrically, “I Believe That You Can Change” explores spiritual experience, communicating with the elements and believing that a change for the better is possible. It’s about recognising that we are all connected, that hurting one another is not the right course of action, and that solutions are ultimately found within ourselves.

Dorian Sorriaux has released a very special indie folk song with “I Believe That You Can Change.” The track is filled with weaving, soulful melodies and lush vocal layers that will leave you wanting more.
