Housewife - “Work Song”
Toronto, Ontario-based indie artist Brighid Fry, aka Housewife, is back on the blog with “Work Song,” an anthemic morsel of indie pop-rock.
A few quick notes from a gritty lead guitar bring this track to life, promptly joined by a dynamite beat that will definitely get your feet tapping. The distorted chords of rhythm guitar churn along to the rhythmic pulse of “Work Song,” effectively providing a thick wall of indie-rock-infused sound. Across this energetic arrangement, Fry provides a remarkable vocal performance– one of the reasons we’ve been so eager to feature every new single that Housewife releases.
On the refrain, Fry adds a vocal harmony that results in a catchy ear worm, bound and determined to have you returning to “Work Song” for multiple spins. A dynamic break provides the track with some additional moments of ebb and flow, adding and removing elements to keep the listener engaged. Coupled with its topnotch production, this tune is sure to earn Housewife some new fans, as well as remind current ones why they became fans in the first place.
About the track, Fry adds: “Work Song is about feeling unsatisfied with yourself and where you’re going. I have really high expectations of myself but also have really unhealthy habits and so oscillate between being a workaholic and being burnt out. I wanted to poke fun at myself, while still processing it as a valid issue in my life. This song is for anyone else out there with executive functioning issues who sometimes feel like a hot mess.”
