Holly Blair - “Loud”

LA-based singer songwriter Holly Blair explores the theme of coming to terms with neurodivergence in her new dream pop track, “Loud.”

Loud” is a lush, textured composition that elegantly blends organic and synthetic layers to create a track that is stylishly ethereal and dreamlike. Driving the otherworldly atmosphere are brilliantly layered synths that vary from lush pads and arpeggiated sequences that enhance the groove to bright, shimmering leads.

Adding to this vibe are the warm, organic tones of acoustic guitar and touches of reflective piano that heighten the feelings of intimacy in “Loud.” For much of the track, the use of percussion is used as a subdued, textural element that provides a pleasing heartbeat. During the middle dream sequence crescendo, the drums are briefly brought to the fore with a punchy and crisp trip-hop beat.

Holly Blair’s vocals, much like the musical elements, shift from heavily processed, synth-driven, otherworldly tones to a more stripped-back, breathy, and emotive delivery as the song progresses. The production and sound design of these elements is slickly done with ethereal uses of reverb and delay helping to create a vibrant, intricate, immersive stereo image.

Loud” is an immaculate track that is rich in introspection, honesty, and musical cleverness. The track is taken from Holly Blair’s forthcoming EP, Then Comes The Lightning, slated for release on August 28th.
