Güero - "Gone Away"

The new single by the Sacramento-based quintet Güero, “Gone Away,” is a complete treat for modern psychedelic music enthusiasts. It is cool, relaxed and feels like a lost deep cut from an early 1970s record. The song has a slow, captivating drum beat that pushes the production forward, and luscious acoustic rhythm guitar gives it a lush texture. Later on, the guitar is almost like shimmers.

The keys on this song are the lovely. Delicate pads of electronic piano and organ melt into each other and give the whole song a dreamy atmosphere. The bass line also has a captivating groove and, for me, is a real highlight of the track. The keys solo in the middle section is another great touch that adds to the retro appeal.

The song changes mood slightly as it approaches the end, where it feels more reflective and meditative. The vocal is cool and relaxed throughout, but reaches some really great tones. The backing vocals are a highlight and make me think of The Moody Blues, specifically off the Seventh Sojourn album.

Gone Away” is a really great traditional psychedelic tune. It achieves this through all the elements working together and leaves you wanting more.
