Gibson Flowers - “Por Favor”

Columbia, Tennessee-based singer-songwriter Matt Johnson, aka Gibson Flowers, has just released the nostalgic sounds of “Por Favor.”

There is a little bit of everything that we love inside of this tune, from its gritty, vintage spirit to its 1950s-inspired chord progression. Pressing play on “Por Favor” invites an acoustic guitar-driven arrangement into your ears, delightfully strummed across the top of a rhythm akin to The Beatles, Dr. Dog, and Lord Huron.

The swells of a string quartet roll through the compostion, providing listeners with some ear candy and adding to the tune’s overall nostalgic appeal. But the true star of this show is Johnson’s vocal, as he has been blessed with an evocative voice that is perfect for this style of music. Once you hear it, you will find that it is very easy to lose yourself amidst the prolific sonic landscape.

The hook will waltz itself directly into your heart, complete with remarkable layers of harmonizing vocals and a quick journey into Johnson’s upper register. “Por Favor” sounds as though it was recovered from a time capsule, thoughtfully placed at a time when the world was less chaotic. We cannot recommend it more highly, especially if you’d like to aurally escape the perils of existence for three minutes and forty seconds.
