Gallipoli - “St. Clements”
Los Angeles-based indie duo Aman Sheriff and Lucas McCone, aka Gallipoli, have just released the exquisitely dreamy sounds of “St. Clements.” If you are looking for a means of escaping the mundane, climb aboard this cinematic work of art.
Pressing play ignites one of the most gloriously ghostly slide guitars we’ve ever had enter our ears. It soars across the top of a second electric, creating a seemingly never ending sea of ambiance. “St. Clements” is the kind of song that feels like home within the first few seconds, welcoming you with its open, ethereal arms.
The vocals soon arrive, soft and gentle as they glide above the resounding sonic space. Multiple layers are added as the song begins its natural and magnificent crescendo, gradually rising like an elegant wave over the track’s duration. The rhythm section appears, further cementing this notion, steadily enchanting all who hear.
“St. Clements” manages to hammer down many of our preferences when it comes to the genre of indie folk, most notably the reverberating and dreamlike music of Novo Amor, coupled with the warm, heartfelt vocals of Gregory Alan Isakov. If you’ve been reading our blog, you’ll know that these are two of our favorites, so finding them within the same song truly is a treasure.
As an homage to their family, Gallipoli take their name from the famous WWI ‘Battle of Gallipoli’. “St. Clements” is a tune that conjures imagery of a young couple on a date and all the questions and insecurities that come with love, “a moment that many of those innocent soldiers on those cliffs and beaches never got to experience.”
“St. Clements” is epic in both its sound and subject matter and we simply cannot wait to see what Gallipoli send us next.
