Amistat – “same old eyes”

Germany-based twin brothers Josef and Jan Prasil, aka Amistat, return to the blog with “same old eyes,” a heavenly and folksy tune dedicated to their father.

The song begins quite minimally, with an arrangement that includes a bit of acoustic guitar and some soft chords from a piano. Vocals dance across the top, taking listeners on a marvelous personal journey through the duo’s delightful brand of storytelling. The guitar soon takes a more chugging approach as the vocal harmony arrives, helping to fill “same old eyes” with copious amounts of dynamic shifting. Weight is slowly added to the soundscape, including a distant and ghostly electric guitar for ambiance.

A gentle and upbeat rhythm arrives, letting listeners know that this song is a celebration that is meant to inspire happiness– in fact, it is impossible not to feel good while listening. Everything sounds as though it is being performed live, in some intimate setting, causing us to recall the first time we featured Amistat on the blog. There is no modern production or autotune being used here and we are left to marvel at the raw, natural talent of the brothers as they flawlessly and effortlessly harmonize.

About the track, Josef and Jan add: "'same old eyes' was inspired by our father and his journey to find his purpose again after recently retiring. He has been battling both physical pains and mental health challenges ever since his motorbike accident 15 years ago." We truly hope that he finds the song as helpful as we do, as we search for strength and direction in our own lives. Press play if you find yourself in need of a little guidance and encouragement, or if you simply need an uplifting tune upon entering another work week.
