Ellur - “Your Dog”

From Yorkshire, indie pop sensation Ellur has once again decided to grace our li’l blog with her astounding sound upon the release of her new single, “Your Dog.”

Ellur secured a permanent position on our channel with the release of the intimately piano-driven “Now I’m Alone,” which is still one of our favorite indie finds of all time. With “Your Dog,” however, listeners get a more fleshed-out, mature production– proof that Ellur is growing and evolving as an artist, as we all suspected would be the case.

The track begins with an almost reverse-reverberating fadein, successfully capturing the interest of anyone within earshot. When the beat emerges, “Your Dog” takes on a more gritty, Big Thief kind of vibe, with wide guitar chords shimmering above the steady pulse of a kick drum. Ellur’s vocal carves a path through the arrangement, confident as can be, with a subtle, higher harmony utilized across key areas.

The second verse brings the entire rhythm section, including a snappy snare and deep notes from the bass. From atop the refrain, layers of keys weave themselves across the sonic landscape, filling in any remaining cracks in the production. After a brief dynamic break that harkens back to the reverse-tape-effect of the song’s beginning, Ellur glides into her upper register, igniting the emotional energy of the composition and leaving us no choice but to listen to the song on a constant loop.

About “Your Dog,” Ellur offers: “[I] wrote this song about my experience with an ex. This song isn't meant to seem petty though; it's just an exploration of pain and turning my experience of pain into art and something to celebrate. When we recorded the track I was listening to a lot of Big Thief, Jeff Buckley and Charlotte Cornfield which has really influenced the sound.”

Your Dog” is now available everywhere via Dance To The Radio, and we suggest getting it into your ears as soon as humanly possible.
