Eden J Howells - “nice enough”

London-based queer alt-folk artist Eden J Howells arrives on our blog with their freshly squeezed release, “nice enough,” a gloriously chill and melodious dish.

The song begins with the somber strums of an acoustic guitar, effectively setting a melancholic mood. At first, the production is somewhat lo-fi, hitting our folksy niche straight out of the gate. Howells’ vocal is a delicious treat once it hits your ears, immediately conjuring the vibes of both Billie Marten and Elliott Smith, practically demanding the listener’s undivided attention.

The distant sounds of strings fade in and “nice enough” bursts into a full-flavored arrangement, complete with bass, drums, and an effected electric guitar that would fit quite comfortably within any Lord Huron tune. Swelling layers of vocals arrive, most notably on the refrain, providing a thick and cozy blanket of sound. This ultimately results in a hook that will surely have you returning for more.

Short and sweet, a two-and-a-half-minute runtime provides you with exactly the right dose of listening pleasure. The track comes complete with heaps of dreaminess and darkness, making it an ideal fit for the type of music we so often seek on the long commutes at the end of each day. “nice enough” arrives ahead of Howells’ EP, the fool, due for release on October 27th.
