Ed Prosek - “Hallelujah”
Berlin-based singer-songwriter Ed Prosek is here with one of the most brilliant indie-folk love songs we’ve ever heard: “Hallelujah.” And while some of you might see the title and immediately think that this is a Leonard Cohen cover, rest assured that this is 100% Prosek’s creation– and what a fantastic creation it is…
As the music begins, listeners will marvel at the stripped back performance, honing in on the way the acoustic instruments push the rhythm forward. Prosek’s remarkable and heartfelt voice soon steps in, and we hang on every word of his lyrics as they vividly describe proposing to the love of his life. A minute into “Hallelujah” and the vocal harmonies kick in, with the meaning behind the track’s title now fully clear: “’Cause I can hear the angels sing in every little thing you do… no matter what the future brings, I’ll be singing hallelujah.” And instantly, everyone within earshot will be longing for a love like this. The percussion joins at the top of the second verse and the song continues with its exquisite serenade until it reaches the crescendo, finally resulting in the tasteful notes of a clarinet. We are well aware that we generally cover tracks containing darker subject matter, but we simply could not pass up this delightfully raw love song. Once you press play, you’ll see exactly what we mean:
The artist adds: “’Hallelujah’ is a song I wrote about getting down on one knee and popping the big question. After all the overwhelming excitement and apprehension, I really wanted to write a song that encapsulated the way I felt at that exact moment, so I’d never forget it. This is that song and it brings me right back to that day so vividly every time I hear it.”
