Dellwood - “Alive”

Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter Dellwood arrives on our blog with the soul-stirring indie-folk anthem, “Alive.”

For fans of Novo Amor or the later works of Bon Iver, it is quite clear that “Alive” has been cut from the same cloth. The raw and intimate strums of acoustic guitar are wonderfully juxtaposed with cinematically produced vocal layering, bringing a level of folksy dreaminess that sits quite nicely between the cracks of the business of the holiday season. The song has been crafted to allow the listener to escape from the world, even if only for its three-minute duration.

Alive” gently crescendos as it progresses, incorporating additional textures of auxiliary vocals and a soft ambient pad in the distance. With lyrical content that traverses “resilience and gratitude in the face of life’s hardships,” we have a feeling that the track will deeply resonate with those suffering through the everyday perils of being human. And patience will reward you with a final third that adds a delicate rhythm section, allowing the production to spread to the far reaches of the sonic landscape.
