Chase McBride - “Silver Dial”
California-based singer-songwriter Chase McBride arrives on our blog with his signature ‘painterly folk’ imbued with ‘pop optimism’ via the wondrous sounds of “Silver Dial.”
Upon pressing the play button, it will not take long for the listener to be completely swept away amidst the reverberating, ghostly swells of lead guitar. And with a rhythm section that has been dipped in the creamy rivers of late-1960s production, “Silver Dial” enters the ears as though you’ve cracked open a time capsule– we became fans within the first ten seconds of hearing the track.
Acoustic guitar and piano pave the way for McBride’s gentle vocal delivery to arrive, which is, for the most part, extremely raw and authentic, just the way we prefer it when it comes to the genre of indie folk. The entire performance has been widened by a seamlessly subtle and consistent vocal harmony, which again nails our folksy niche.
This track comes across as something Wilco might write and then employ the voice of Gary Lightbody. The overall sound is smooth and reflective, adding a bit of bounce to an inclusive, introspective vibe. With a muted and melodic bass line and a divine sense of vintage character, “Silver Dial” is going to fit quite nicely among all of your favorite playlists.
